Quidditch Australia is looking for up to two motivated individuals to join the Quidditch Australia Board!

The board has capacity for up to eight people, with only six elected at the 2020 AGM and two appointed roles available. The position currently vacant on the Board is a General Member with a focus on Strategic Direction, meaning they will be working on the execution of the Strategic Plan developed throughout 2020.

If you are interested in applying for a board position please email secretary@quidditchaustralia.org with a short candidate statement expressing your interest.

Applications will close on the 18th of March 2021.

COVID-19: Victorian Suspension Ends, Other States Resume Competition- Updates for All Clubs

The suspension of play in Victoria has been lifted and teams can train at Step 1B again! QLD and NSW have both returned to Step 4 and the bubble training system has been lifted in NSW. All states and territories except Victoria are now at Step 4 Restrictions, permitting resumption of competitive play with COVIDSafe policies and common sense practises in place.

Quidditch in 2020: What We're Doing Right and What We Can Be Doing

Cameron Walker is one of the co-coaches for new club, Eastern Sydney Universities (previously UTS and UNSW). In this article, he questions whether quidditch is doing enough to be returning to sport under the pandemic conditions, as many other community sports in NSW have done. He also expresses concerns over the impacts of the pandemic and lack of gameplay on recruitment, suggests solutions, and goes on to describe the successes ESU have had over the last several months in keeping trainings going, keeping players motivated, and continuing to prepare for potential games in the future, with the hope that other clubs, similarly impacted by the pandemic, may be able to learn from what has worked for ESU.

COVID-19: Updates for NSW and ACT Restrictions

In response to the rapidly increasing community spread of COVID-19 across different hotspots around Sydney, Quidditch Australia and Quidditch NSW have decided to proactively move NSW back to Step 2 restrictions. The ACT, meanwhile, has been moved up to Step 4 restrictions. NSW teams who are continuing to train are encouraged to fill out a Covid Safety Plan and send this to Quidditch Australia.
