COVID-19: June 13th Updates For Clubs - QARPP Ammendments and Progression

As Australia progresses through it’s recovery plan from the COVID-19 close down, Quidditch Australia is pleased to announce the following progressions for various states through the Quidditch Australia Return to Play Plan. Tonight, we are also announcing some adjustments to the later steps of the QARPP, now that we have a clearer sense of government recommendation, sporting recommendations, etc.

First of all, please note the following changes:

  1. At Step 2, the ‘training bubble’ is being extended, to allow players to attend trainings of up to two different clubs.

  2. In between Step 3 (Max 100, non contact trainings), and Step 4 (undefined maximum, contact allowed, competitions and competitive games can resume), we are defining an additional Step 3B, where contact is allowed at trainings again, but we will not be resuming competitive play. This is in an effort to continue to ease transition for players from non playing, back into playing, and then practising and getting used to contact again, before resuming full competition. States will be placed on Step 3B for at least two weeks before progressing to full competitions.

The steps now stand as thus:

Please note that while contact training is permitted at Step 3B, physical distancing and the 4 square meter rule should be maintained wherever else possible, and hygiene requirements remain in place, in the interest of continuing to minimise any other risk of transmission.

Players and organisers are reminded to not grow complacent regarding resurgence of the virus, as restrictions are eased.

Nevertheless, the following progressions are now in effect:

ACT: Moving to Step 3B effective June 20th.
NSW: Moving to Step 2 effective immediately.
QLD: Moving to Step 1B effective immediately.
SA: Moving to Step 3 effective immediately, and Step 3B from June 25th.*
VIC: Moving to Step 2 on June 21st.
WA: Moving to Step 3B effective immediately.

*Note that local regulations mandate a maximum of 80 people, not 100, for South Australia, until 19th June.

In the mean time, especially if you are an organiser, please ensure you are familiar with the requirements of the Quidditch Australia Resumption of Play Plan, including the need for a gradual scaling up of training intensity and taking attendance at trainings. Make sure you apply for sanctioning for your trainings so that they are covered by insurance here.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation and we look forward to being able to resume competitions in the coming months, all going to plan.
