A Note From the Chairperson

Hello everyone - I hope your June was full of pride!

It’s been a somewhat busy month for us, particularly on the media front. Quadball Victoria, including QA’s very own Justine Eyre alongside Michelle Duke, were invited into the JOY Media studio to talk about Victorian quadball and the inclusivity of the sport more generally. JOY Media is an Australian Not-For-Profit media organisation that spotlights the stories and lives of LGBTQIA+ communities around the country, and we were incredibly excited to share the quadball love with such a cool organisation. You can listen to the podcast episode here. Additionally, an article in the Sydney Morning Herald went live last week featuring yours truly, where I spoke about the stuggles we’re experiencing with quadball growth and team sport participation broadly in Australia. The article, I hope, helped push our sport into the mainstream for a moment - any publicity is good publicity they say! You can read the article here.

We’ve also made some significant progress on the development of our Community Survey, and are getting much closer to being able to share it around to you all. The purpose of the survey is to gather as much information as we can from our current and former member base, so that we can start developing a strategic plan for Australian quadball. Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you even more updates in next month’s newsletter.

Ths month, we also said goodbye to Charles Marpaung, who has resigned as Board Director. Quadball Australia was very grateful to have Charles step up to fill a casual vacancy position at the start of the year, and wish him all the best!

Other updates in this edition of QA Today include some more details on this year’s Australian Quadball Club Championships, an exciting partnership with Drifter Hostels, and a brief look at the Australian Auroras attending the Oceania-Asian Games later this year in September - so be sure to check it out!

Aus. Quadball Club Championships Updates & Info

Australia’s premier club competition is back again, this time at Camperdown, NSW over the 12-13th of September. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the event!

As usual, there is no club sign-up fee. All participating clubs must be registered on RevSport to compete.

We are still waiting to finalise the player registration fee. Players who would like to get involved but do not have a team are encouraged to find a club to participate with.

The social venue is yet to be determined, but we can confirm that there will NOT be a Stay and Play policy (but keep reading for a sweet deal on accommodation!)

Application forms are live on our social media for the tournament committee, including a tournament director. General volunteers include referees, people to help with filming, pitch managers, and commentators. If you enjoy these parts of AQCC, then please consider signing up to help make them happen! Gang Gangs x Maximus

The Canberra Quadball Club have been announced as one of the winners of the Maximus Wooden Spooners 2026 sponsorship competition

CQC Vice President and self-proclaimed social media guru, Jack Scott, says that “This is such an exciting opportunity for the Canberra Gang-Gangs, and I think it shows that even if we aren’t the best team around, we have a strong sense of community and friendship, and I’m proud that the social side of the team which I love so much is being recognised with this sponsorship. Hopefully it will also give us the motivation we need to finish slightly higher than last at AQCC this year, but that would just be a bonus.”

Quadball Australia x Drifter Hostels Partnership

We are very excited to announce that Drifter Hostels are the official accommodation partner for Quadball Australia events in 2026.

For Sydney locations, use the code QuadballAUS2026 for a 10% discount. Bookings must be made directly on their website in order to receive the discount. This discount code is valid till December 31st 2026 and can be used at any time, including during major tournaments like AQCC and OAG (in partnership with the IQA).

Farewell Charles

After six months of service, Charles Marpaung has resigned from Quadball Australia

Appointed as Board Director after a call out for casual vacancies, Charles has stepped down from his position. We wish Charles all the best in his future endeavours - both quadball-related and otherwise, and would like to thank him for his time this year.

Bringing Home the Gold: 10 Years On

We might not fly but the years certainly do! Instead, we - or at least the 2016 Australian Dropbears - do bring home gold medals and glory for our country.

To commemorate this anniversary, we are looking to put together a mini media campaign. Keep an eye on our socials for more details in the coming weeks!

Australian National Squad Update

After recent tryouts, the Australian National Squad has been refreshed, including an announcement of the squad representing Australia at the upcoming Oceania-Asian Games!

First off, a massive congratulations to everyone who has been inducted into the ANS!

The ANS now comprises of 40 players from around the country. It is from this pool of players that Head Coach Tom Russell, alongside his Assistant Coaches, Ashan Abey, Samantha Chittenden Luke Derrick, Vicki Huynh, and Rajtilak Kapoor, select teams intending to represent Australia at international level quadball competitions, such as the World Cup, and the upcoming Oceania-Asian Games.

We are excited to confirm that the Auroras, Australia’s elite development squad, will be attending OAG this year. A squqad of 21 players was announced last week and we’d like to wish everyone the very best of luck! You can support the Auroras by purchasing a supporter jersey over on RevSport (link here) or by attending the OAG, which will be held at Landen Stadium in Seven Hills, NSW, over the 26-27 September.
